Peppermill Restaurant & Fireside Lounge Happy Hour. The Strip

The Peppermill has been serving the north Strip since 1972, and it may be the last place in Las Vegas that still looks the way the city did before the megaresorts arrived. Step past the diner side into the Fireside Lounge and you get the full effect: a sunken fire pit burning out of a pool of water, mirrored ceilings, faux cherry blossom trees strung with lights, and low banquettes glowing purple and blue. Scorsese shot scenes from Casino here, and film crews have been returning ever since. Nothing built in the last forty years feels remotely like it.

The daily happy hour goes from 3pm to 6pm, every day of the week, with special pricing on well drinks, select beers, and house wines, plus half-off select appetizers. Night owls get a second window: a reverse happy hour from 11pm to 2am Monday through Thursday, shifting to midnight until 3am Friday through Sunday. Locals do even better. Show a valid Las Vegas resident ID in the Fireside Lounge Tuesday through Thursday and the deal stretches from 7am all the way to 6pm.

This is the spot for anyone who wants old Vegas atmosphere without a velvet rope. Couples claim the banquettes around the fire pit, longtime regulars hold down the lounge in the afternoon, and late at night the room fills with industry workers coming off shift. The kitchen portions are famously enormous, so half-off appetizers here actually means something. If someone at your table orders a Scorpion, the lounge's signature 64-ounce goblet, you will see it coming from across the room.

A few practical notes. The Peppermill sits at 2985 Las Vegas Blvd South, up past the Wynn near Resorts World, a stretch most visitors skip, which keeps the crowd more local than the center Strip. It is no longer a true 24-hour operation: Monday through Wednesday it closes at 2am with last seating at 1:15am, then runs around the clock Thursday through Sunday. Time your reverse happy hour visit accordingly, because early in the week that late window ends right at close.
