The Standard Tavern Happy Hour. Centennial Hills

The chicken nachos are the order regulars push on first-timers, piled with a tomatillo sauce that gets name-checked in reviews more than anything else on the menu. Beyond that the kitchen covers familiar tavern ground with better aim than it needs to: a VGK Burger for the hockey crowd, Cajun pasta, wings, fish and chips, and a short pizza list that includes a hot honey pie. This is a 24 hour spot on Rome Boulevard in Centennial Hills, bar-top gaming machines and all, so the kitchen never really goes dark.

The weekday window from 3 to 6 pm is when the snacky half of the menu drops in price. Standard sliders, pretzel bites, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, loaded fries, and those chicken nachos all show up on the happy hour sheet Monday through Friday, which makes it easy to graze through an afternoon without committing to a full plate. Tuesday evenings add a separate burger deal on top of that.

The crowd is neighborhood through and through: northwest valley locals, off-shift workers taking advantage of the round-the-clock hours, video poker lifers holding down the bar. Business has been good enough that a second location is in the works for northwest Las Vegas. Call before building plans around the specials, since taverns like this shuffle menus without much notice.
